A True Grief Story

Sitting down.
Laptop ready.
Hot cocoa in hand.
Ready to “get to work.”
”Greet the day.”
And then grief arrives.
An interruptor of the day’s plans.
It takes me with, quickly.
Crumbling to the couch.
Body enters grief mode.
A twitch here, a tear there.
More tears.
Hands clutching,
holding on for the wave we are about to ride.
Cocoa gets cold.
As I lean into this one.
I let it take me,
As I will my heart to stay open
To pain, sorrow, and love.
3 o’clock on a Tuesday afternoon.

There’s never a convenient time.
For grief to come knocking.
It’s always a convenient time.

It’s been seven weeks today.
